To analyse the state of a specific literature topic, the systematic literature review process has been chosen as a comprehensive methodology that is most useful for software engineering related studies. Working with digital transformation and data software engineering concepts will prove quite helpful. The systematic review process applies a specific protocol that is outlined in the next section. A systematic literature review has more advantages over traditional literature research, as the findings are more transparent and scientific replicable as a predefined search strategy is in place.
Therefore, the study provides evidence that the phenomenon is robust and transferable. A systematic review is not a content analysis, e.g., (Flick, 2018), where the predictive and exploratory studies have been classified to their main content and themes. Instead, a systematic literature review process is “a means of evaluating and interpreting all available research relevant to a particular research question or topic area or phenomenon of interest”.
This study followed the mixed-method research, which is defined as “combining various elements of both quantitative and qualitative approaches with regards to perspectives, data collection and data analysis”. The use of mixed research was intended to triangulate data sources and collect rich data on the topic. In the process, collected data could be more objective to reduce potential bias that might affect findings.
